WeatherBug For The iPhone – Brand New Release!

As those of you who follow this blog might already know, WeatherBug is all about ongoing releases and updates to the WeatherBug iPhone app. This month, WeatherBug has launched not only an update to their existing application, but also a new version that has added functionality not found in the free application.
In the video posted below, you will see the new free WeatherBug application. Besides bug fixes and stability improvements, there is also better use of the iPhones own technology as well. But in the most visible sense, what you will find is something that the community has been quite vocal about – 7 day and hourly forecasting.

As detailed in the video above, this free version of WeatherBug is available now from the iPhone App store. Also mentioned in the video, you will find the following BRAND NEW levels of functionality in this release of the iPhone application.
New features include:
- Enhanced 7-day and hourly forecasts
- Full presentation of NWS alerts
- Time-lapse weather camera animation
- Unlimited saved locations
- Temperature contour and satellite infrared maps
- Enhanced current conditions with 12 distinct observations
- Touch anywhere map technology allows user to “drop a pin” and view current weather conditions for that location
Obviously in the video above, I was unable to show off the enhanced NWS alerts because nothing was happening in my location at the moment. And due to YouTube’s time limits, I did not show off the ability to save UNLIMITED locations for future reference. Yes, you can save as many weather locations as your heart desires!
For those of you brand new to the WeatherBug app for the iPhone, you will also find the previous levels of functionality available as well.
Key features:
- Live, local weather conditions and forecasts
- 7-day and hourly forecasts
- National Weather Service (NWS) alerts
- Daily national weather outlook video
- Radar maps with zoom feature
- View live weather cameras (up to 5)
- Fast access to saved locations (up to 10)
- Cached weather data for offline viewing
- Map auto-center function (US only)
Remember, what makes WeatherBug better than all the others is that you are accessing both NWS weather stations AND WeatherBug’s own proprietary weather stations as well. This means you pick the nearest weather station to you rather than simply selecting a “town”, which is rather limited in the grand scheme of things. This means if it is hailing in your neighborhood, yet sunny across town, WeatherBug will help you to determine this. With the other guys, not so much.
In the next blog post, I will be demonstrating WeatherBug Elite for the iPhone. Stay tuned…
