Favorite WeatherBug API Application Roundup

During the course of 2008, WeatherBug lead the way with their API efforts. Today I wanted to highlight some of my personal favorites.

WeatherCurve- A fantastic way to plot a trip of a 100 miles or more. Because weather changes can greatly affect travel conditions, WeatherCurve allows its users to plot a course while also being aware of what the conditions will translate into during the course of the drive.

Complete with Google Map directions, WeatherCurve is a must use app for anyone doing any kind of driving with distance involved. I use it all the time.

AirMe- I have been a fan of AirMe on a personal front ever since the recent purchase of my own iPhone. Seriously, if you enjoy uploading pictures to Flickr/Photobucket or other sites from your iPhone, AirMe is a must have app.

As you can see from my own examples in this link, AirMe will take your photo that is uploaded automatically to your chosen picture hosting service, and combine tags of data showing off the temp, wind speed and other relevant weather conditions. And thanks to the iPhone’s own location services using GPS, AirMe is able to keep your location in check so the weather conditions being reported are accurate as you travel.

Camtwist- Best known for giving OS X users special effects with their webcam, Camtwist is also known for providing a way for its users to share their current temperature with viewers of the given webcam stream. Some compatible streaming services include Ustream, Stickam, Justin.tv among others. Camtwist also does well with Yahoo and Skype.

As you can see from the API link here, WeatherBug’s API is used in a number of applications. So if you are looking to integrate weather data into an application you are working on, I would suggest giving serious consideration to WeatherBug as the API is quite flexible to work with.
