Configuring WeatherBug For The Mac

These days, we are seeing a growing number of Mac users discovering the benefits of WeatherBug for the Mac. Unfortunately, like with anything from Windows to Mac, things are setup a little differently. With this in mind, I will be taking time today to demonstrate how a user changes the settings for WeatherBug Mac the easy way.

Location is everything!
Let’s start off with making sure the weather you are tracking is from the best possible weather station in your area.
As you can see below, I already used the previous pull down menu pictured previously to select “Change Location…”. And this is what I ended up with. From this point, all I need to do is enter my location into the search box seen above.

Generally speaking, most people simply type in their town, state/province. So for me, I would type
Mount Vernon, WA
It is at this point that you will see a list of options appearing beneath. Each of these options will have a sideways triangle next to them. By clicking on one of these sideways triangles, you will be able to select the closest weather station to your current location.
This right here, is what sets WeatherBug apart from other weather applications. It is this ability that provides you with the most relevant possible weather, in real time, that WeatherBug can possibly deliver to you.
Settings, not preferences
Again, left click into the WeatherBug temp next to the clock brings up some selectable options to choose from.

Second from the bottom of this list, you will note where it says “Settings…”. This option allows you to make changes in the behavior of the software.

Now the box above is known as the WeatherBug alerts box. Simply put, it is designed to give you the tools needed to set the alert level of the software to best meet your needs. What does this mean? Basically, you can choose to set your WeatherBug alert level to low if you are simply wanting the most severe weather alerts or slide it to medium or high if you want to know about more than just weather warnings, you wish to be kept up on all of the latest weather statements and advisories as well. In short, it is a tool to put you in the driver’s seat of this application.
Then we have the advanced tab. This is reached simply by clicking on the word “Advanced” under the Settings title as pictured above.

Most of you will want to become familair with this selection as this is where you are able to setup important features shown in the above image. The single most common feature most people want to tweak is the Temp unit settings. Just click the arrows next to “F” and you are good to go. Once changes are completed, just remember to hit save.
