What Is A Non-Precipitation Warning?

Those of you using various WeatherBug applications on your desktop or on your mobile devices, might be wondering what in the heck a Non-Precipitation Warning actually means? Well, WeatherBug issues these Non-Precipitation alerts over their iPhone WeatherBug application or over the desktop application when NOAA has issued a Non-Precipitation alert.

As you can see here, it basically means that a large area is affected by high wind, frost, heat, wind chill, and yes in some areas, even dense fog. While it might not seem like a big deal because it is not directly storm related, the truth is in some cases, it WILL BE storm related later on. It could mean you are being lead into weather that may be deemed as severe and requiring your immediate attention despite this not currently being the case. Think of it as a “heads up”.

So the next time one of these events come across your WeatherBug application, consider heeding the alert as an opportunity to keep the device set to alert you to severe weather handy. You never know when severe weather might strike!
