Ike’s Worst May Be Over, But Frustration Continues To Mount

We learned yesterday that my wife’s best friend still has a home intact, even considering the immense damage sent forward by Hurricane Ike. Yet despite her good fortune, there are countless others that are not so lucky I am afraid. Even worse is the fact that many people are still forced to stay away from their homes even though the perceived worst of the event is said to be over.
Most of us living in non-hurricane affected areas will likely never experience the level of displacement and frustration that the affected thousands feel right now. Mud, heat, no power are all signs that this is going to be a long, uphill battle as the country works to regain its land legs after this terrible event. So even though some folks claim that this is simply not as devastating as Hurricane Katrina, I would be quick to counter with the point that to those affected with a loss of a home, missing family members or even loss of their jobs, this must feel just like Katrina due to the sense of loss and frustration felt by all those dealing with this situation.
For the time being, the common cure being prescribed by those in charge of relief help is to “be patient”. Sounds a lot easier said than done to me.
