Tweaking WeatherBug Within The New Netscape Browser- A Guide

For those of you who use the Netscape browser, you may have noticed the latest release has been provided with the WeatherBug add-on already installed into the browser for you.
In this piece, we will look at features it provides and how to tweak WeatherBug’s settings to best suit your needs.
Step 1. Open the browser and go to Tools and then choose ‘add-ons’. Select WeatherBug, then Preferences.
Step 2. Now you will have a new window called “WeatherBug option”. From this area, you can easily choose to:
- Make your WeatherBug add-on display the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit (Labeled in the settings as ‘English or Metric”)
- Turn on or off alerts to severe weather warnings that may be in your area.
- Manipulate the location of the Weather Window via a pull down menu or disable the window completely.
- And perhaps most importantly, select your own location, as the current location.
That’s all there is to it. Using the provided settings shown above allows you to control how the WeatherBug add-on displays your weather information, select the closest weather station and even decide on Celsius vs Fahrenheit as your default settings.
Uninstalling the WeatherBug Add-on:
Should find that you are simply not needing WeatherBug in the browser any longer, removal is very simple. As you can see below, just go to Tools, then select Add-ons. Then click on the Add-on you would like to remove. In this case, it would be WeatherBug. Select it, then choose the uninstall button - it’s just that easy.
Before removing it though, remember that having this running in your Netscape browser only works to serve you. And with the insane weather seen over the course of 2006 and 2007, is this really something you want to be without for 2008? Just something to consider…

Hi
I am using NET 9 and cannot change my location to Canada (Kingston, Ontario).
I have read your updates, but the International location says (o).
Please let me know how to fix.
Thanks Julian

If you search for “Kingston, Canada”, it will come up with locations for you.

Hi, I keep changing the location, and every day it goes back to Mountain View, CA. I have followed the instructions above…many times!

From tools, add-ons, try seeing if there is an update by clicking the “find updates” option. Try this to see if it helps. In the mean time, I am alerting support to the issue.

I just loaded Netscape 9 and realized the Weather Bug is on Mountain View (wish I was back home, Im from Mendocino villiage and Marin, but I now live in Las Vegas), when I set it to Las Vegas, the Weather Bug bar is still on Mountain View (the pictures show rain, but there is no rain forecasted for Las Vegas today, so the bar is still Mt View, but if I click on the bar, it does show Las Vegas, hope that will stay, maybe if I reboot then maybe the bar will show no rain (like the song by blind melon). I did read the 2nd fix. If you get another fix, let me know at archure.net and stop by and hear my quick load MIDI music at http://www.archure.net : )

Archure: I think I would uninstall that version as it may have some compatibility issues, then install the latest after closing and restarting your Netscape browser. The Firefox version should work.

Weather bug is a pain in the arse and I have tried every trick in the book, and it keeps comming back. If I can’t piss it off tonight, I’ll uninstall Netscape and go back to Firefox

Dave: That is interesting as the add-on has been removed by me in testing MANY times with amazing ease. Unless Netscape suddenly did something very different, I think you need to share what “hurdles” you faced removing a browser add-on.
In short, it is exactly the same as the WeatherBug Firefox add-on - so I think you may have missed something here.
Is weather forecasting science or a best guess estimate part four

Hi Cindy, I have seen this happen before with Add/Remove and other programs not showing up. It can be a real pain - got to love Windows!
If it was me and you are comfortable doing so, you might try something a little more in-depth like MyUninstaller.
It often times will allow you to deal with problems presented by issues with Add/Remove. When using, just be very careful to only use Uninstall Selected Software with a right-click.
If this sounds like it is not going to work for you, at the very least we can stop it from starting at all.
Goto Start menu>Run option>type msconfig>look for Startup Tab> uncheck WeatherBug entries
That will not remove it, but it will stop it from starting with each system boot.
Do you know which version (how old is it) of WeatherBug you have? It is really odd that it would not show up in Add/Remove unless your Windows install is showing deeper problems. Let me know.
