Space Invasion Review

Space Invasion from StarByte is an updated version of the classic arcade game Space Invaders. Aside from better graphics, powerups, and new touch controls the core of the game remains the same, which isn’t a bad thing.
The game plays just like the original where you are a space ship protecting Earth and you must stop the alien invasion from above. Destroy an entire fleet of aliens brings you to the next level. Some of new elements to the gameplay include a strange red ship that will fly by and try to destroy you, if you are able to destroy it get a good bit of points. Also in the game are now power ups. These include making your weapon more powerful, shields, and extra lives. Also included in this game is support for multiplayer. This mode allows one person to play until he/she dies and then player 2 gets to try their level, and so forth, all on the same iPhone/iPod Touch.
The graphics in the game also look way better than the original. They do a fine job because they don’t stray too far from the original look of the game, and anyone looking at the game will know what it is. The background and inteface look really sharp and do stand out The sound has a very nice retro feel and I couldn’t imagine playing the game without it.
There are a few missing features of the game that I would like to see. First off there should be a way to upload your score to see who has the highest, kind of like how Tap Tap Revenge does this. Also some sort of network play would be great to have. Of course neither of these things are musts but they would be nice to see.
Overall this is a great game for the price $3.99 and if you are a fan of the original you should pick up this port today. If you have never played the game, how that is possible I don’t know, you too can enjoy this great title. On a side note though this is as tough as the original so beware, the screen above is something I see often. I cant wait to see what StarByte has coming out next.
There is no audio in the video but there is sound in the game.
