GTS World Racing Review

Its now official there is an actual racing game in the App Store, no not a Kart racing game but a game that has real cars like sports cars and formula one cars. GTS World Racing is one of the few games in the App Store to feature good graphics with amazing controls and this game leaves its users wanting more.

Gameplay

Let me just state that this is the most natural feeling game out for the iPhone. The games controls are full tilt based, no touch controls to race. Like with the other racing games in order to move the car you have to tilt it from left to right. The controls are so perfect that if someone is watching you play it they will barely even notice that you are moving the iPhone. In order to accelerate your car you have to gradually tilt your iPhone forward. While this may sound a little weird it works great.

Like with a real car you cant just push the petal to the metal and expect the car to drive soothingly. If you tilt the iPhone forward to fast the screen will start to turn red to warn you to slow down, if you go too fast you will get a message staying “Too Flat!”. The thing that is great about these controls is that the iPhone is never put in an awkward situation, so you can always see the screen and not look too silly in public.

There are four different race modes to choose from, Single Race; Challenge Cup; and Championship. All four modes offer a different way to play through the game and adds a lot of depth to this title.

Here is a quick look at all four modes,

  • Single Race- Check out the tracks and practice your skills before heading for the main event.
  • Challenge Cup- Race at all 16 locations and achieve the required finishing position for your chosen difficulty.
  • Grand Tour- Complete all 64 tracks in 16 locations and achieve the required finishing position in each race.
  • Championship- Complete the full 16 race season and score the most points to win!

You have a choice between three different cars to play the game with, Coupe, Sports, and Formula. All three cars handle differently and all three take skill to master on the higher levels. For beginners you should go with the Sports car because it offers the best mix between speed and tight controls.

Graphics and Sound

The game really shines on the iPhone screen. The graphics are all in stunning 3D and the environments look steller. As you can tell by the sky and the hills the environments looks especially great in the game. The only downside to the graphics is that your car appears to be 2D and can be a little distracting. The sense of speed is in this game and flying past other cars looks really good. The sound also helps here because you can hear the engines going the ground going past you. There is also a sound track present with a few songs to listen to, and all at good quality, but of course you can listen to your own tracks.

As mentioned before there are 16 different locations to race in and all of these locals are in different countries giving the games levels a different look. As you can see by the photos above one level you are racing in the desert and another you are racing  next to ice covered mountains. All of the different levels look different and all remain the same level of high quality and detail.

Final Word

Buy. This. Game.

Its amazing how well the controls work, it feels as natural as playing a Wii game, yes its that good. With 64 different tracks to choose this game has great replay value written all over it. Like with the other racing games its a shame that there is no multiplayer support, but here’s to hoping it comes in an update. The graphics are sharp and the sound is smooth.

In all honesty I cannot find anything wrong with this game, its worth your $7.99, no excuse me I have to go play this game some more.
