GeForce 7950 GT: Nvidia’s new $300 card

  • No Related Post

Well, today we look at the new NVIDIA $300 video card. I don’t know about you, but I think that I would call a video card at $300 high end myself.

Last week when we reviewed Nvidia’s new GeForce 7900 GS mid-range SKU (along with ATI’s hot new 256MB version of the Radon X1900 XT), we failed to mention one little detail. On that day, Nvidia announced a slightly higher priced model—the GeForce 7950 GT. Priced about $50 to $100 more than the 7900 GS, it straddles the price line between midrange and high-end graphics. Fortunately, the specs read just like Nvidia’s high-end single card, the GeForce 7900 GTX. The only real difference is clock speed.
We didn’t review the 7950 GT at the time simply because it wasn’t available yet. Nvidia took a step back from their recent habit of announcing a product with simultaneous availability: The 7950 GT was announced on the 6th with availability scheduled for a week later. Fortunately, the cards were in stock all over the web, right on the promised date and at the promised prices of $299 to $349. Let’s take a deeper look at what could essentially be called a clocked-down 7900 GTX and see how much value it offers…. Source: ExtremeTech
