Iomega’s Wireless Terabyte NAS

  • No Related Post

Most NAS units are typical. Not the one from Iomega however. No, they have a new model out not that is offering wireless ability - how cool is that?

Earlier this year, we reviewed Iomega’s compact single drive NAS solution, the StorCenter 250GB. For basic sharing and backup duty, the little black NAS handles simple tasks with ease but isn’t really equipped to do any heavy lifting. For more-discerning enthusiasts and office users, Iomega offers the StorCenter 1TB for homes and small businesses seeking wireless 802.11g support in addition to the traditional NAS ensemble. Join us as we put the StorCenter 1TB through the paces to see if it has the right stuff…. Source: ExtremeTech

I recently had a very unpleasant experience with the 1 TB storcenter. In a nutshell, the web interface is substandard, navigation is confusing, and it probably only works with SMB. If you expect to use NFS, you’ll be greatly disappointed because fundamental information like “is it running squash root” and the inability to change owner and group to match your desired values will hamper your ability to do real work with this box.

Mechanically and thermally, I like the box but, the shortcomings with NFS made me send it right back to the reseller
