Mobo makers confirm May launch for Turion64 X2 and Socket AM2

Man, I bet those people that are in the know can’t wait for the release of the motherboard manufacturers list. With the latest efforts from AMD, this could prove to be interesting indeed….

The availability of AMD’s next-generation CPUs – the Turion 64 X2 mobile and Socket-AM2 processors – will still follow the chip vendor’s May schedule, according to unnamed motherboard makers that have recently received this confirmation from AMD, in response to speculation, on the part of some PC makers, that the schedule had been put back to June, on insufficient utilization and capacity concerns.

AMD will launch the Turion 64 X2 mobile platform on May 17 and AM2-compatible processors on May 23, as opposed to rumors of a June 6 launch for the desktop segment and an unspecified June date for the mobile CPU, according to sources at the motherboard makers.

However, sources at Taiwan DRAM makers indicated that mass production of DDR2 memory for AMD-based systems will begin some time in July or August, one to two months later than originally estimated. Source: DigiTimes
