The iPod, the Audiophile, and Thou

Trying to locate that perfect sound for the audiophile must be a real challenge. Lucky for me since I do not fall into this area. But for who do, you might find the following of real interest…
My article last week on the trials and tribulations of trying to be an audiophile in a digital media world touched a real chord among a number of people. I’d like to take some time to respond collectively to those emails and forum posts.
But before I dive into those responses, one thing I found interesting: Nobody mentioned multichannel high-fidelity formats. By that, I mean, not one email or forum post (that I can recall as I write this) touched on SACD or DVD-Audio. I’m slowly developing a collection of SACD and DVD-A discs, which are only playable on DVD players that support the formats. Some players only support DVD-A, some only SACD and quite a few players support neither. A growing number of players support both formats, and both of the DVD players in my two A/V racks are multiformat capable. Yet, there is no digital alternative to that. Source: ExtremeTech
