The reason for hard drives sales climbing is pretty obvious - new forms of media to download! Yup, so long as there is new and exciting creative content to check out, there will continue to be a surge in hard drive sales. A healthy spending environment, with businesses and users snatching up servers and PCs, last year pushed sales of hard disk drive units to grow by 25 percent unit in 2005. Leading the HDD charge, Seagate Technology shipped 108 million drives to customers and organizations, according to a new report by TrendFocus.
In the desktop HDD market, more than 214 million units were shipped in 2005. Seagate accounted for 28.3 percent of that total, improving upon a market share of 26.9 percent in 2004, per findings released Feb. 6 within TrendFocus’ Storage Demand Analysis System, CQ4 ‘05 Quarterly Update.
