Review: AMD FX-60 Dual-Core Processor

It has been discussed all over the Web lately that in many respects, Intel has fallen behind AMD in the processor market. And with the Athlon 64 FX-60 is an AMD dual-core CPU running faster than its predecessor, I have to wonder if Intel can honest make any sort of recovery here.

Intel closed out 2005 by launching the 955 Extreme Edition CPU. So it’s not surprising that AMD counters Intel by opening the New Year with the Athlon 64 FX-60. Like Intel’s 955 EE, the FX-60 isn’t really a new architecture, but rather is based on the current AMD x86, 64-bit, dual-core CPUs, and then pumped up a bit.

We plopped the FX-60 into an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard in the lab and put it through its paces. But before we take a closer look at test results, let’s talk about the processor. [Read the rest]
