Viiv Inside? Intel Is Bringing Entertainment PCs to Life

It’s been my experience that when Intel makes news, they do so in waves. As they work their way into the entertainment world, it looks like their Viiv technology will be no exception.

I don’t know if we’ll see “bunny people” TV commercials but the brandmeisters and technologists at Intel Corp. have teamed up again. Last August at Intel Developer Forum, the company unveiled Viiv, a new brand for entertainment-oriented home computers that combine cutting-edge processors, embedded communications and seamless media presentation.

Promised to ship in the first quarter of 2006, computers using Viiv technology stand a good chance of revolutionizing the home computer market, as Intel did for mobile PCs with its Centrino platform (see box). If you develop software, content, or services for the consumer market, you’ll need to know what’s happening with Viiv, so that you can be ready to take advantage of it for your own offerings.
