LG. Philips to build LCD factory in Poland

While I am glad to see them being given some new job opportunities to Poland, I wish this could of been a new employment opportunity in the US as our job market is likely to start shrinking again here pretty soon. Oh well, at least LCDs with be a-plenty I guess.

LG. Philips will start building next year an LCD (liquid crystal display) module production plant in Poland, the company said Wednesday.

It is planning to invest $538 million by 2011 to establish the plant that will take LCD panels produced in South Korea and make them into completed LCD modules by adding back light units, light polarizing films, driver ICs, and product cases, it said in a statement. Once the panels have been made into completed modules they can be sold to LG.Philips customers, such as TV and monitor makers.

The focus of the module production will be TV modules, such as 26-, 32-, 37- and 42-inch panels, and 19-inch and above modules for monitors. [Read the rest]
