Portable media centers are becoming more and more common place these days. But seriously though, is the Tatung V620 really worth it? I am just not digging the overall ‘look’ of it.
The Tatung V620 was on display at the Microsoft Windows Mobile floor space at Computex this week. The device is a Windows CE 5.0 based personal video player that has an absolutely gorgeous screen, DivX video playback added in by Tatung and it’s not half as clunky and heavy as the existing Windows Media Center handheld devices.
Tatung www.tatung.com) is a Taiwanese company that is certainly not a household name in the U.S., but they are well respected for their quality products in Asia. They make very nice notebook and Tablet PC devices. There’s even a Tatung University and Tatung High School in Taipei where they breed their engineers I suppose. The good news is that although their products are generally not available in the U.S., this device will be available worldwide! I actually spoke to a programmer working on the project for this device and he assured me they were going to have a final product in the next month and the release and availability would definitely be October, in time for the Christmas season. Tatung is customizing the device somewhat by adding such things as DivX playback support, something past devices have not offered. [Read the rest]
