It is not that often that we see an LCD get a review this poor. But it looks like NEC had better re-think a thing or two before trying their hand at this anytime soon. Check out the review for the NEC MultiSync LCD1970GX.
The 19-inch NEC MultiSync LCD1970GX ($550 street) monitor offers an impressive array of features. It boasts an 8-ms pixel-response rate, dual signal inputs, four powered USB ports, and a slick user interface with a tiny joystick on the front panel. Unfortunately, the spec sheet does not accurately predict the user’s experience with this monitor.
The thin bezel panel is mounted on an attractive stand that includes tilt, swivel, and height adjustments. The front-panel controls are well marked, and there is a unique joystick control that makes navigating the on-screen menu easy and intuitive. As with many NEC-Mitsubishi LCD monitors, you can also download the free NaViSet utility to control the monitor settings from your computer’s keyboard.
The panel has a clear-coat surface with a glossy finish instead of the traditional matte finish of an antiglare coating. This design increases contrast by making the black level look darker, which in turn makes colors appear more saturated and brighter. On the other hand, the glossy surface reflects more glare and ambient lighting, so it may not be the best choice if you do not have control over the room lighting.
