Samsung, Freescale Show Off UWB Phone

A little bulky for my taste, this Samsung prototype could be the type of mobile we will be using on ultra-high speed networks of the future. Too soon to tell yet just how popular these will be, I am sure that the data hounds will be rushing out to buy one when the opportunity presents itself.

Samsung Semiconductor and Freescale Semiconductor have teamed up to include ultrawideband technology on a cell phone.

The prototype phone, originally displayed at the 3GSM exposition in Cannes, France, includes a UWB used to quickly download information from a phone to the PC, such as an address book, ringtones, or other files.

Samsung and Freescale did not offer a timetable for the phone’s deployment.
