As I look over the pictures of the asetek VapoChill eXtreme Edition II, I must say that the style does little for me. Having said this, the brand is one of quality and you have to love the rating that they received from Xtreme Resources. Besides, it looks as if keeping this cool enough for most of our needs is not as out of reach as once thought. You just need the right case.
Times certainly have changed concerning the cooling of computer components. I don’t have many years into the computer scene, yet I remember the old Pentium 1 systems that required nothing but a small passive heat sink to work properly. With the explosion of computers and the resulting technological evolution, the enthusiast’s zeal to improve their computers has exploded as well. When over clocking broke onto the scene, cooling became an issue. Following the remark “colder is better”, hardcore overclockers became cooling experts as well. The small, sometimes even passive heat sinks were rapidly replaced by larger heat sinks made of alloys better suited for increased heat conductivity (copper) and featured larger and faster cooling fans. Then the more daring overclockers began to search for better cooling methods since they all discovered that the colder a CPU can be maintained, the higher it will overclock. In a very short time more powerful cooling methods such as water-cooling entered the market. only a very few number of companies jumped on the opportunity to fulfill the lust of the hardcore overclockers by offering very powerful cooling systems. asetek was such a company and the VapoChill XE II is such a product: a very powerful phase change cooling unit. The VapoChill XE II is special in it’s own way because it is the only system that comes pre-installed in its own special computer case, saving the end-user from the hassle of case modifications and/or other worries and making it the most simple to use phase change cooling system to date.
