New Wireless Chips Reduce Power Consumption in Mobile Devices

This could be just the ticket for those who really ‘go through the batteries’ with their mobile devices. The biggest power hog I can think of has got to be notebook PCs. If technology can help out in this area, then I say more ‘power’ to it! (OK, that was a really lame pun)

AMD Athlon 64 vs. Sempron Comparison

It was bound to happen eventually. Someone out there was eventually going to come up with a review that looked at the real differences between the AMD Athlon 64 and the Sempron processors. One thing that was said in this review that I felt was completely wrong was as follows. They are making the claim […]

asetek VapoChill eXtreme Edition II

As I look over the pictures of the asetek VapoChill eXtreme Edition II, I must say that the style does little for me. Having said this, the brand is one of quality and you have to love the rating that they received from Xtreme Resources. Besides, it looks as if keeping this cool enough for […]

XFX GeForce 6600 GT 128MB Dual-DVI Edition

Boy, it seems like there is a GeForce powered card coming out just about every week these days! Having said this, I realize that in this game it takes an ever-adapting mindset to keep up with the competition. This XFX GeForce 6600 GT 128MB Dual-DVI Edition card certainly appears to be a great catch. But […]

Intel 3.46GHz EE CPU : Intro/Testbed

All and all this extreme version of the Pentium 4 had pretty good marks for this review. Performance was about what they expected, but there was the feeling that the cache could have been more than what it was. Why is this always seem like a problem? I imagine that you would have to ask […]

Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939

This $110 Gigabyte board designed for the AMD64 processor looks like a pretty sweet deal to me! Nice price, NVIDIA’s nForce3 Ultra chipset, plus a whole lot more. Feature rich and certainly worth a second mention, I would consider buying this as a secondary option even if I am an ASUS fan.

Apple’s Mac mini - Tempting PC Users Everywhere

This review of the Mac mini actually seems to cut through the hype in order to get right down to the meat of the matter - is this worth your hard earned money? From what I am seeing, it lacks enough memory right out of the box and it does not come with any of […]

NVIDIA Introduces New GeForce 6200 with TurboCache

NVIDIA continues to push the virtual envelope with their new TurboCache technology. With this advancement, they can offer the consumer the performance they expect at a cost that does not break the bank. In simplest terms, TurboCache allows the GPU to do its rendering right to a computer’s memory rather than to the video card’s […]

Industry’s First Portable USB Speaker System

Now I could see the advantage of this product if say, you had a notebook PC that you needed to have improved sound on for a movie or something similar to that. Besides that, I am just not really digging the whole concept behind these speakers. As small as they are, they can’t be very […]

Does Hercules’ Fortissimo 4 Deliver at 24 Bits?

OK, yes the Fortissimo 4 is a really nice sound card. You will not get any arguments there. But one has to wonder what real advantages the Fortissimo 4 offers that previous versions did not. The answer to this will actually surprise you. I know I was sort of taken back a bit.

Testbed To Improve Internet2 Formed

Internet2 continues to progress right along according to ExtremeTech. The area of the article that caught my attention was about the Hybrid Optical and Packet Infrastructure nodes being used. From the way things are being described, this must be using some serious hardware to keep everything moving forward. Guess one would have to, being they […]

Which DVD drive is right for you?

Frankly, I don’t know. Luckily, the folks over at ExtremeTech might! Let’s face it, when you hear someone say: “Dude, I just got a new PC with a killer CD-RW drive”, you just laugh, don’t you? It’s OK to admit; I do the same. CD’s are so 1990’s, but you don’t […]
