Good news Mac lovers, Sony is releasing an external DVD burner designed to work with the new DualLayer disks. When you ask? How does December sound to you? Not bad considering that is not even a month away!

The bad news is that they are using Roxio software. As someone who has not been real impressed with anything that Roxio has done in a long time, I would not be real thrilled with their DVD burning software myself.

Sony has announced plans to release a double-layer DVD burner that is compatible with the Macintosh Latest News about Macintosh platform.

The external double-layer DVD drive, the DRX-710UL-T, is capable of recording up to four hours of MPEG-2 video or up to 8.5 GB of data, songs and images on compatible DVD+R DL media, Sony said.

The DVD burner will start shipping in December at a retail price of around US$230.

Sony previously launched two double-layer DVD burners in March.
