MacCentral reports that MCE Technologies is now shipping 100 GB PowerBook drives for consumers to purchase. Reports state that the drives are compatible with both G4/G3 PowerBooks and iBooks.

When looking at an upgrade like this, price is always a factor that needs to be looked at. With a price of $279US, it does seem a little pricey. Then again, it is also a pretty big drive for a Mac. If you are looking for a drive upgrade for your PowerBook, this may be the best solution for you. Personally, I just cannot see it.

MCE Technologies announced on Tuesday that the 100GB version of its MobileStor line of PowerBook hard drive upgrades is now shipping. It’s compatible with all G4 and G3 PowerBooks, including the G3 3500 model, as well as G3 and G4 iBooks. The 100GB MobileStor hard drive features an 8MB cache buffer, fluid dynamic bearings that reduce acoustic noise and a low-power idle mode to conserve battery power.
