Well, I’ve now used this unti for long enough to have it bite my butt if it was going to. Fortunately for my blood pressure, that hasn’t happened. I outlined my frustrating experience with Visioneer some time ago, so I was quite willing to believe the worst of anything connected to a scanner.
The Lexmark X1150 turns out to be so far from a problem that you can’t see the other side. I was very cautious about buying another scanner and I didn’t really need another printer sitting around guzzling watts, but at a price of $30, I couldn’t muster the necessary willpower to stay away.
Boy, am I glad I failed!
The unit I bought was factory refurbished, which I don’t mind a bit. It gives you superior prices and the same warrantee as a new one. I’ve had reason to use Lexmark’s services before, so I was perfectly willing to take that chance. Lexmark is the only printer company I’ve ever dealt with that was prepared to overnight me a new printer to replace a failed unit. There was NO cost to me at all. How can you beat that? Once the tech and I had established that the printer electronics had gone to that big boneyard in the sky, it was a matter of a minute or two and I was off the phone with a new printer headed my way.
Installation of this Multi-Function Printer (MFP) was extremely simple- install the cables on the unit, plug it into power, then plug it into a USB port, and install the software. Done.
The instructions were clear and there were no hitches. The unit provides the usual printer/scanner/copier combination. The software provides opportunities to fine-tune the performance and change the settings to suit the way you want to use the MFP. There are there are Paper Feed, Scan, Color Copy, and Black Copy buttons on the bottom right corner of the dark silver body. Pushing any of the main function buttons gets you pretty much instant action. There doesn’t seem to be much of anything like the warmup period that used to delay your scans by as much as several minutes. I guess technology has improved since I last had a working scanner.
It sits there quietly waiting until I have need of it and outside of that, it doesn’t pester me at all. What else could you need? The price of $30 [refurbed and without cartridges] still seems like a miracle. And I’m still happy with this prduct!
