Early Chrome builds for OS X not that promising

I downloaded the latest build of the Chrome browser for OS X tonight and gave it a quick once over to see how it compared to other browsers on the Macintosh.  The first thing you notice, and I’m sure they will fix this before the final release, is the massive font they use for the address bar.  It isn’t that big of a deal since it doesn’t cut into your usable screen area but it is jarring and if you decide to use bookmarks it will start to cut into your available browser space.

At the moment things like Flash don’t work but that will come over time.  As a browser it works fine, but I can’t see any speed or rendering benefits over the current version of Safari, which is build 3.2.3.  I like variety and am glad that Google is building a version of Chrome for the Mac, but I do not see anything yet that would entice someone to switch browsers.  Here is the Google Chrome download site organized by date.
