The story behind the crying white monster on Yo Gabba Gabba!

This was bugging me a few days ago. I was watching Yo Gabba Gabba with my son and there was a strange white monster that was crying; he had been in some other episodes but only briefly and with no mention of hist story - other than the fact that he cries all the time. It bugged me and so I set about looking up this character to see why the show had spent money on a costume for this creature and why he kept popping up.
Wikipedia was no help. The show’s website was no help. Google really wasn’t much of a help either. The answer came from some forums that I had looked up. The character originally came from some CD art for an Aquabats CD. The Aquabats, according to the forums, helped to develop the show. D.J. Lance Rock even tours with the Aquabats from time to time. The story goes that they were making a Muno costume - he is the one that looks like a big red sex toy - when they screwed it up. Rather than trashing the costume and wasting the money, they scraped off the bumps and turned him into the Gooble character.
The story behind the Gooble name is that it was a play off of Gabba, but I don’t believe that. The band came up with the name Yo Gabba Gabba based off of a chant that the Ramones used in one of their songs, “Gabba Gabba hey!” The “Gabba Gabba hey” chant was supposedly based on the phrase “Gooble Gobble, one of us, one of us” which is from the 1932 movie “Freaks.” So there you have it: “Gooble Gobble” from Freaks turned into “Gabba Gabba hey” with the Ramones and that turned into “Yo Gabba Gabba” with the Aquabats. When they decided to add a character from their CD art I think they went back to the original source of the name to bestow their white and ghostly character with his name. I doubt anyone really wanted to know this, but some people do and hopefully they will find this article and get the answers they crave.

OMG! Thank you so much for finding that information! It was funny because I was watching the show with my 8 month old son and saw the character a few times and when I did, was confused to why the monster was always crying. I mean, what would you explain to your child that is watching the show? My sister, who has a 9 month old who watches the show as well, was wondering the same thing! So anyways, I ‘googled’ to find out anything regarding the ‘crying, white monster’ and found nothing…until today!
Even though the explanation was not to my satisfaction, atleast I know me and my sister are not the only ones wondering about it!

DJ lance was in the Aquabats before anything else. That’s why they tour. He was a band member

This gooble character was on my husbands and my mind for the past two months. We could not understand who he was or where he came from. I find him a bit terrifying to say the least. We saw the epsiode where tudee is mean to gooble and that helped some. Any way I assumed he was a cousin of muno or something crazy like that. Thanks for the info, I can finally sleep soundly at night.
