Mac Vs PC – Shut Up, Already!

Everyone is freaking sick of all of the flame wars surrounding ‘PC vs Mac.’ It’s the same crap time and time again, and Apple and Microsoft sure haven’t been helping with their latest ads. They seem to have done nothing but ad more fuel to this raging inferno of a debate.

People spend countless hours yelling at each other, arguing again and again over the same damn thing every time, no matter where you look. Forums, chatrooms, comment sections, and even News Shows are arguing over them. Most of the time, it starts with some stupid reason as to why one is better than the other. Hey CNBC, I’m pretty sure Macs DON’T COME WITH PHOTOSHOP FOR FREE.

Windows has more virus’. Macs can’t play games. Windows has the BSOD. Macs are expensive. Windows has more software. OS X is more reliable. Vista sucked. Macs kernel panic. Apple fanboys are a cult. (I don’t want to even START with the name calling.)

They are nothing more than tools people! This is like arguing that your Craftsman hammer is better than a higher end Dalluge hammer. It doesn’t matter that your tool is shinier, made of titanium or that you only paid a fraction of the cost for it compared to the other brand. No one cares what kind of hammer you have. Someone brags “I HAS A HAMMER” and people ask, “Great, now what are you going to do with it?” It’s the same damn thing with computers. You bought one, great. Now what are you going to do with it?

Who cares which one has a better menu, or which one has a better start up noise? Each person has different needs, desires and wants. And each OS meets those needs in it’s own way. Wanna game? Get Windows of course. But that doesn’t automatically make it better for everyone. This might be a shock to some, but not everyone games! D: I could go on with that, but that’s not my point here.

Use what you want to, try what interests you, help people, but for the love of god shut up about which is better. Until people start listening and making sense, these wars ain’t going anywhere fast.

AMEN brother!

I find the two sides end up talking past each other most of the time. Someone that just wants a cheap laptop does not care that it comes without FW800 and DDR3 RAM. The reason I bought a Dell laptop 3.5 years ago after owning computers that ran System 7.x/OS 8.x for 12 years, was that I could pick the exact components I wanted.

Apple is doing better with market share these days. I came to the conclusion back when I bought the Dell that they do not want more than a 20% market share because it would look bad if they peaked and crashed twice.

How is the relationship with the stripper going?

Great points, I think the whole Mac vs PC trash is getting out of hand.

You don’t hear much of Mac vs Linux or Windows vs Linux, it’s all closed source :(

I just wish they would SHUT UP about it.

Have a great day:)

Now if only the sheep (errrrrrrrr… “average users”) of the world could see things this clearly…

The reason these ads exist (other than for the obvious profit-generation they provide) is the sheer lack of knowledge about these “computer thingies” that so many of use (either by choice – or as required at work).

At almost every job I have ever had (excluding the short co-op I had at Symantec in my college years) – I have found that nearly everybody (outside the IS/IT department) knows little more than what they HAVE to in order to be able to do their job (and sometimes even these skills are lacking).

They can barely find their way around Windows (which as it is in most offices, is the “default” OS) – even finding how to open Outlook, Word, or Excel can be a challenge if the IT guys didn’t set up shortcuts for them…

And don’t even get me started with things like printers – I’ve seen (on numerous occasions) a printer be “down” (and IT called) for days because it was OUT OF PAPER!!!

Anyhoo – back to the ads… This is why they (both sides) try to sell how “easy” their “computer” is. Notice that I didn’t say OS (as that’s what Microsoft is selling) – the ads just assume that if you buy a “MAC” or a “PC”, you get the OS that they are ACTUALLY trying to sell you!

Try telling the average person that you can install Windows on a MAC – and watch them tilt their head like a dog ;) ;)

Two ads (one from each side) pretty much spell out how each side sees their intended audience:

PC – the one with the little girl (“I’m a PC – and I’m four and a half”). When it comes to using Windows, even a pre-schooler can use it. And YOU are smarter than a pre-schooler, aren’t you???

MAC – just about ANY iPod commercial. I KNOW that we’re talking about COMPUTERS here, but the iPod users are the best example of rabid fanboys/fangirls I can think of…

iTards (as I like to refer to them as) don’t NEED to know anything about the product that they WILL be buying. All they need to see is some goof dancing around, some “music” ( I use this term loosely – but that’s just me) in the background, some flashy colours – and ending with the NAME of the new thing that they are going to shell out a few hundred bucks on (despite the fact that they JUST got the last “newest thing”).

If only we could go around smacking people for their idiocy – we wouldn’t NEED ads like these ;) ;)

I guess you are right. I’ll stop if they stop.

[...] Can we just put an end to the OS wars? [...]

AMEN Brotha… let just say it’s all personal prefference… that’s what it all boils down to anyways.

lol.”coke or pepsi” anyone? ? ?
Who gives a damn. everyone has different tastes and uses for a product.
Even Linux users get over-bearing in Windows Forums at times. If they don’t like Windows, then why are they commenting in a windows based forum? Duh! ! !
There are more important things in this world to “Bitch” about than whose computer is better.

“Make Peace Not War”

It is the coolest site, keep so!

I actaully enjoy debate, and this is one of my fav. topics, but i can see how it would get annoying. I am also sad b/c linux (my fav.) gets left out =(
