Why do you Come to Lockergnome.com?

Here at Lockergnome we have hundreds if not thousands of users who come by on a daily basis. Many of them are regular writers here while others come through just to read everyones thoughts and findings.

I’m trying to figure out what it is the Lockergnome audience is most attracted too. When you as a reader visit the home page, what kind of posts catch your eye?

Many users watch news readers, and post what they find interesting here. A lot of the posts I have seen lately seem to be nothing more than a quick copy and paste, with a quick one or two sentences added on that don’t really mean anything. Do you as a reader find even half of these things of any value? Post of the news that gets posted here I’ve already seen roll through Digg or something.

It’s like many bloggers are desperate for content, but don’t want to take the time to come up with an original thought. When I first started blogging here, I tried that. And it went no where fast. Since then, I’ve tried to make a more original approach to my posts. And I have seen mixed results. Extremely mixed.

That’s why I have to ask, With every website comes a different expectation. One thing that gets millions of hits on one site, might not be given a second look at on another.

When you come to Lockergnome, what makes you click a post and read into it? What reallygrabs your attention?

Most of the time, I skim posts to get an idea of what they are about. What usually causes me to take the time to actually read thru them is, when the writer appears to be sharing their personal experience for others benifit, not ranting and raving or showing off!

Hello,

I visit http://help.lockergnome.com/general daily to try and answer questions.

I visit http://www.lockergnome.com daily as well, but more for the entertainment value, although sometimes there is a thought-provoking entry which causes me to leave a comment or two.

I have to admit it was odd that I even caught this post. I don’t normally visit lockergnome any longer. I know that many of my associates also no longer bother with the site.

It used to be that lockergnome was a great site to get a good over view of what was going on in the tech fields. It was the first site I went to in my morning ritual of reading. It used to provide very useful information for me in my particular field of work. Then about a year ago things started to change. I saw less and less blogs on tech items and more and more on just uninteresting things. Sorry, but I don’t care about anyone’s political views or what some football player is/has doing/done and it seemed that more and more of the bloggers were just plain unhappy and hateful. I also noticed that the age of the bloggers has become very young. This is general is not a bad thing as long as the blogs are written in a mature manner and have decent content. Many of them don’t posses these traits. I would rather not read about items such as please send me two dollars so I can get a gamming system. I also do not shop through lockergnome so the amount of adds is amusing. I understand that this is a necessity to keep lockergnome running and so Chris can make a living. But 49 links or adds to items I don’t want.

I also recall the first and only time I joined Chris’s chat room. I was amazed and very disappointed. It was a total waste of time.

I also find it amusing that a second community has been created to feed the geeks tech needs of the community and it seems it is nothing more than a geeky myspace. Basically it is a place for many to burn time on.

I know that many who read this will be thinking: “Screw you, if you don’t like it then don’t come here”. Sadly, I have taken their advice. I am just disappointed that some felt the need to expand to point that everything is allowed now and the idea that fostered the original site has been tossed by the way side.

greywizard pretty much got it right for me too.

Chris is so bust these days, he’s had to pass on responsibility for many things. While this may make Lockergnome new and exciting, for someone who has been with the newsletters virtually from the start, , they are quite different and not quite what I’m interested in for the reasons greywizard has already said.

Chris and his personality are Lockergnome - It’s the age-old catch-22 of business, that when one man is the business, it’s very difficult for them to move on without changing the business significantly.

I’ll still pop by occasionally, Lockergnome may be different now, but it is still very good!
