Screw Vista, I’m Going Mac!

Today my MacBook Pro finally arrived, and I am completely in love with it! I also scored a great deal on it, thanks to eBay. After tax, this thing would have normally cost $2118.94, but I managed to score it for only $1599. Not cheap, but it’s still one hell of a deal if you ask me, especially on new Mac!

I look back at my desktop and wonder what I’m going to do with it. I’m definitely not going to get rid of the hardware anytime soon… but what should I do about Vista? Lately all Vista has been giving me is trouble. It seems like every other day I get greeted with another BSOD. I’ve run stress tests on all the hardware in both Vista AND XP, and everything so far has turned up 100%.

The issue is with Vista, and I’m flat out sick of trying to maintain it. Everything that can breaks…. breaks. The letter ‘V’ in the search box causes Explorer to crash. If I go into sleep mode, my wireless adapter refuses to wake up unless I reboot. None of the shortcuts in the Start Menu work. The sidebar wants to use 200 MBs of RAM (for 5 gadgets, ALL from Microsoft.) In some programs my right click menu goes onto the OTHER screen (dual monitors). T

he list goes on and on, and I’m sick and tired of going through trial and error, and randomly editing the registry time and time again. It’s a pain for me, so how the hell is an average user suppose to use Vista!?!

No more late nights with Vista. The next time it goes down on me, I’m wiping the drive and going back to XP. I’ve still got A LOT to learn about using a Mac, but even as a complete noob, the experience thus far has been amazing. Everything seems to just work. And that’s what I need for college. I wouldn’t trust Vista with something as important as a term paper.

As of today, I have gone Mac, and I AIN’T going back!

Might I suggest you run malware bytes anti malware? Grats on the mac :)

I agree completely with everything here. Windows will never be as smooth as Macs and Apple because Macs and Apples have much tighter control of their hardware.

Microsoft has to go to and fro between a myriad of hardware companies trying to eliminate lumpiness.

Congratulations. The pain will subside gradually as the Mac mojo kicks in.

I may try Mac one day.Just as i may try Linux. Why?Because i’am a geek and i love computers. But as far as Vista being bad?I havent had any problems with it.I got it preinstalled on my HP.And this was shortly after it came out.Vista has never went down on me.I keep it updated and do my scans.I also has 2 XP computers.Same with them.I keep them updated and do my scans. But it’s cool you love your Mac.Good luck and smooth surfing.

I have no problem with Vista. What software do you use to fight spyware/malware etc. & do u use it daily?

I also used to be a big Vista bad talker myself …. I have to honestly say since I started to use 64 bit Vista ultimate I have had almost no issues. I run it on my Dell Inspiron laptop, as well as my self built gaming rig. Now I won’t say Vista doesn’t have problems, but I think a lot has to do with non Intel, and older hardware. I play heavy hitting games as well as tons of different applications as I am on my pc a good 16 hours + per day, and as of yet (approx 3 months use) have not had a bsod.

Good luck with the Mac I wish you all the best of luck. As for me I’ve been a windows user for as many years as you’ve been living (more than likely) and I’m sticking thru the hard times.

I forgot to add, that I also use service pack 1 (obviously).

i would like to try a mac the cost is the thing right now. i use linux and vista which so far is working for me. i prefer the linux. i switch between the different flavors all the time to see which one i like best. so far Kubuntu seem the best for me. but at the moment i am trying SuSE and freebsd

Congratulations! Your life will change.

I still use Windows – Vista and XP – everyday, but my main computer is now a MacBook Pro. I absolutely love it. It’s the best laptop I’ve ever owned and I just plain ENJOY using Leopard.

Computers are fun again.

I seem to be hearing so much Vista bashing lately. It is becoming tiresome. I bought an HP Pavillion a6000n with Vista Home Premium already installed. The only thing I did after running it for about one month, was purchase and install an extra 2 Gigs of Memory. It came with 1 Gig. May I make an assumption? Most of the Vista problems rants seem to come from people who tried to upgrade from a previous version of Windows which was funtional on their existing computer. So far I’m happy with Vista.

It really pisses me off when people say, “I don’t have any problems with Vista.” as if those of us who do/did must be morons or lying. And what really pisses me off is the fact that I’m able to say that about one of my computers but not two others…and all three are essentially the same. All three have the same processor and the same graphics card. Their motherboards however are from different manufacturers which is, I think, part of the problem. They also don’t use the same printers which is also part of the problem.

So don’t tell me you have no problems. I don’t give a hoot and all it means is that you are lucky. The fact is Vista was rushed out at least 9 months too soon and Microsoft’s partners dropped their end of the bargain too.

I love my MAC. My husband brought the first one into my house last year, as I have ALWAYS been a PC user. My PC was a bit on the old side, and I never used Vista. NEVER will use Vista. I dislike everything about windows, and XP, and probably vista too. I bought my first MAC maybe 2 months ago. I will NEVER go back. No way. No how.

They are quite easy to use, unlike what most people say. They have one cord! I got the iMAC and its BEAUTIFUL. All I have to say is that it is to bad most people never get a chance to try one. They are the best machines around in my book!

The folks who have good luck with Vista are most likely the ones that bought a new PC with it pre-installed. My next door neighbor is in that category. He owns a small business and has bought at least a half-dozen over the past year, no problems.

But like David said, it’s a Royal Crap-shoot as to whether or not it will work well with your existing XP-based PC. So why waste money “trying it out” if XP does the job?

And worse, how juvenile is it to run out and buy a new PC just to show off that you have Vista?

if you want some bitchen eye-candy you cant beat Gos (Google OS) and it’s free!

People dont get upset with us for being honest.I havent had a bit of problem with Vista. And i didn’t run out and get a new computer just for Vista.I got it because it was a good deal at the time. And i’am a geek. And i could afford the HP computer with 250gb hd.And came with 1gb of ram.And since Vista was out.Didnt make sence to go backwards and get another XP.Oh i still have my other 2 XP machines. And happy they still running quite well.If you had problems with Vista,I’am sorry. But stop the hating on those that’s havent. If i could afford it i would have every brand computer out there. And believe me i takes computers serious.I would want all to work well.

Really? New PCs? I have to apologize for adding to an old thread but I installed Vista when it came out without major issues on an AMD 3800+ x2 system. It was then installed on a four year old Toshiba laptop, had to dig for sound drivers, but thats it.

Right now I have the OS installed on 7 64bit workstations back in my lab, my gaming PC (built from scratch), a three year old Vaio laptop and the AMD system. All those systems run fine all the time.

All seems to boil down to 3rd party drivers, like it or not. ATI and Nvidia were the biggest culprits but other drivers seemed to have issues too. The only issue I can fault MS about is with network file transfers but after SP1 they are much better. If anything it is amazing it all works with so many different hardware out there.

So DAVID and Cliffystones you must either have done a straight upgrade, never a good idea with a new OS (at least from MS) or still have some crappy drivers mucking about in your system. If you have self-esteem issues about whats happening to you, thats your problem, but it is a reality that there are as many people out there running Vista without a hitch.

Linux, OSX, Windows, they are all good and all of them have faults, it is how it is.
