I Wish the Wii Didn’t Suck so Much

Nintendo has a brilliant marketing team on their side. The Nintendo Wii has to be one of the most successful products released in the world. It’s been almost two years since the release of the wii, and the damn thing is STILL next to impossible to find in stores. The Wii introduces a batch of whole new styles of games play, from guns to steering wheels to sword play. Extra peripherals like the balance board give developers a chance to make even more unique games that most console have yet to even THINK about.

So why does the Wii seem to suck so much??

When I first got my Wii I was very excited to give is a try. I’m a hardcore gamer and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! When I tried Wii sports for the first time, I was taken in. It was a brand new way to play games that is something everyone has to simply try… at their friends’ house that has one. As tempting as it might be, I honestly wouldn’t recommend everyone get one. I know I’m a little late (try 2 years?) but it just doesn’t live up to the hype it promises.

The Wii shows off a very attractive way of playing, but can’t hold you in for that long. Basically, there are almost no games for the Wii that can make it a good library. There is definitely a good title here and there, but all of those are mostly coming from Nintendo themselves. Almost all of the games that developers have released have been anything but stellar.

I’ve read a few articles on game sites that point out that developers aren’t really interest in making games for the Wii. Any game they make for the Wii can’t really be made for the other systems as well. The unique controller of the Wii simply prevents it. It’s also hard to turn away the idea of releasing a game on both the 360 AND PS3. Developers are also probably not up to the whole idea of competing with some of the big title first party games.

The Wii is also missing a key factor in the Next-Gen consol battle. Hi-Def graphics. While graphics are only part of the battle, it’s a big selling point right now. The Wii simply doesn’t have the power to push out this kind of picture, and it’s a hard hit to them.

Finally, for some unknown reason, Nintendo won’t step into the world of online gaming. While a few games do support some kind of online gamming, they are EXTREMELY controlled. Games like Mario Kart or SSBM won’t let you talk to anyone you’re playing against. In fact, you’re not even allowed to know their handle! Nintendo wants to make online gaming safe for little kids, but couldn’t they has just added a parental control option to disable instead of cutting the whole thing off?

I’ve had my Wii for a month now. I only played it the first month or two. All my gaming has been either on the 360 or the PS3. The Wii is simply for non-hardcore gamers, and Nintendo has shown no intension of changing their market direction. At E3 2008, they were highly criticized for announcing NOTHING for the hardcore fan base. Nintendo actually had to come out and apologize for letting everyone down. Hopefully Nintendo will wake up and address this issue, because a game console isn’t a game console without GAMES, especially being on the market for 2 years!

The Wii introduces an amazing new way of playing. I just wish I had something to play on it right now. Comments are welcome; as I’m sure I started a war.

i totally agree. i got mine within the first month it came out (a lot of waiting in line, a LOT!) and for the first 3 months me and my friends loved it. then i got old. im going to sell it now, because its lame. pc gaming was always my thing anyways.

I have all 3 consoles as well and to be honest I find I am playing the ps3 more due to its online play hi def graphics and unique exclusive games that are not on the 360……I love the 360 though for its gamerpoints and accomplishments…….I like the wii for it group fun and unique way of playing and unique games alltogether….playing a little mario here and there is needed……what ever happened to StarFox………would do wonders for an online game and help the wii expand its unique games library…..

Chris you Spelt “Suck” wrong or was that intentional :P

Wii has sold the most but the most wii and PS3 users have 2 games where most Xbox users have 7 games. Xbox is and always is for more adult and mature games where Wii is more targeted for kids. Wii has also sold well in Nursing homes because of the light exercise.
As for games at first using a gun for Rainbow six would be cool but it will soon feel like you need a console.

I got my wii the day it launchedand I find myself playing my 360 all day everyday when im not working on my website. I play my PS3 sometime but im waiting on HOME to launch first.
