Rumor: Microsoft Planning on Buying Logitech

According to InformationWeek.com, rumors have begun to circulate that Microsoft may be planning to place a takeover bid on Logitech. This rumor is currently only fueled however by the fact that as the ‘news’ spread, Logitech’s market share jumped a whopping 12% in one day.

When asked about the possibility of a takeover, board member Daniel Borel, the groups largest shareholder, stated that he had no intention on selling his stock to Microsoft any time in the near future. He then went on to state however that he only owns 6% of the stock, which means he doesn’t have the power to enable, nor prevent the sale.

Microsoft is currently the leader in software development, and the gain of Logitech would also make them the leaders in mice and other hardware devices.

Some market players however feel the rumor is just that, a rumor. They feel all the rise is a rebound from the physical year. This year Logitech suffered a 20% loss, and with the end of the term coming, these numbers may just be the market recovering.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Microsoft should acquire Logitech? Or do you think they should remain separate in order to eliminate a possibility of a computer monopoly developing? Leave your comments!
