Macs Do Have Malware And Viruses, And They’re Now Targeting Porn Watchers!

A lot of people think that once you get a Mac, you never have to worry about getting another virus. This, of course, is complete crap. While a lot of viruses made for a Windows machine can get won’t affect a Mac machine, Macs have their own line of viruses and malware they have to keep their eye on.

Today (Wednesday), a new Trojan called the OSX.RSPlug.A presents itself as a codec update that, once installed, will let you watch some porn video you can’t get to work. The Trojan has to be manually installed by downloading it and then launching it. Once it’s in, getting it out can be extremely difficult. The Trojan will steal your traffic and redirect you to phishing sites and advertisements for other porn sites.
Common sense should be the first tool when defending against this threat however. There are millions of porn sites out there that allow you to watch dirty content without installing anything at all. So why go through with the risk?

Macs have their own share of the threat, so don’t go thinking you’re completely safe just because you got a Mac. ‘Cause you’re not.

Leopard Users Report Major Problems With Wireless Internet!

Latley Chris Pirillo has been going on and on about how much better Leopard is better than Vista. And on a lot of grounds he’s right, it does have its advantages over a lot of Vista features. I dont however see how great “syncing settings” on multiple machines would be so great, considering even if i did get a mac, it would be my only one. To him its astounding, to me, its kinda… meh… not that interesting.

But Chris is making it seem like Leopard is with imperfections, which is far from the truth. Leopard hasn’t been out for a week now and already a lot of users are reporting issues. One of the most wide spread issues going on the offical Apple forums is a claim that over time, a wireless connection will crawl to a halt and fail. The connection will start off fine, but then slow down from 100 kds to 10 kbs to 2kbs to nothing. Many users claim that their connection is now worse than dial up! Can you imagine, worse than dial up??

A lot of the users are going as far as to say “Leopard is not complete, this really is just a BETA.” and “I’m going to have to go back down to 10.4.” Doesn’t this sound familiar? Isnt this the same thing Vista users are saying?

Dont think Leopard will solve all your problems. Its a good machine, but its full of its own issues right now.

As for the wireless issue, the forums, while official, are sricly user to user and are not responded to by Apple officials. As of right now Apple has not posted any mention of the issue or any possible fixes for it.

AT&T Paying Apple $18 Per iPhone Per Month

While the exact details of AT&T and Apple’s revenue sharing agreement have not yet been officially released, one expert believes that by using the power of math, he has found out just how much Apple is receiving for each iPhone. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster took the sales number of 1.4 million iPhones sold, and subtracted the 250,000 iPhones reported not being activated. This gives us a total of 1.15 million iPhones left. He then took the sales figures of the fourth quarter for final related sales, which had managed to reach the $118 million mark. After removing the revenue from hardware profits, it was determined that AT&T is paying Apple $18 per iPhone per month of service!

Just after two years, this agreement would easily pay for the iPhone itself. THIS is why Apple doesn’t want people hacking the iPhone and altering it for other services. Considering that 15% of people have already hacked their iPhone, Apple has lost over $86 million for the next two years of lost service!

Once you consider these kind of losses for Apple, it isn’t hard to understand why it doesn’t want people hacking the iPhone. But it makes you wonder if it tried making agreements with other companies… what are your thoughts? If Apple were to allow the user to pick their service provider, would profits be better or worse?

TVLinks Shut Down, Owner Arrested

Thanks to technology, there are many ways we can enjoy your favorite shows or movies.  We could wash them on the regularly scheduled times,or record them and watch them when we want.  We can also buy them on DVD, or just watched them on the broadcasters website.  There is also a way that is very questionable that allows users to watch the shows on the Internet from third-party websites.  The legality of this issue is still in debate, and I won’t get into it at this time.  I would however like to let everyone know that a popular website called TV leaks has been shut down and the owner, a 26-year-old UK-based lad has been arrested.

Now, his website TV-Links,didn’t actually post any videos but just linked to other major websites that hostedit such as Youtube and Google video. this is a common practice that is used widely in torrents.  Sites don’t actually link to the files but instead to torrents that can be used to download the files.  This was considered a loophole allowing websites to stay open but still allowing users to get their shows. But since this recent development, a number of other websites including AllofTV have announced that they will be closing their doors.

There are still however hundreds of websites that allow the user to watch any show or movie date police on demand.  Consumers want to watch a show when they want and how they want, and no matter how much large companies go and arrest the viewers, others will continue to do it.  Companies can either continue to arrest people, or except people watching videos on the web and instead learn how to exploit it.

Viacom in fact has just launched a new surface that allows users to watch any episode from the daily show with Jon Stewart from the past eight years on their website.  These videos are free to watch and you don’t have to sign up for anything, they are supported solely by advertising.  Since the episodes of the daily show are now so we easy to view on the web and good quality, it can be very easy to predict that piracy of the episodes will dramatically drop.

I think consumers are making it pretty clear that they’d want to be in control of what they watch and companies need to accept this and learn how to build a new structure around this.  What are your thoughts on this?  Feel free to leave any comments on the subject, after all it’s a widely discussed subject that can easily affect you!

Watch Every Episode of The Daily Show Online For Free!

I have always agreed that TV shows should be available on the Internet for free. Users want to be able to watch what they want when they want without having to pay extra fees. Content such as this can be easily supported by advertising, grabbing the interest of millions of users that can be shown ads before and after, even during the show. Some networks such as CBS have allowed users to watch the current week’s episode of Survivor on the web for free (supported by advertising).

But to the best of my knowledge, this marks the first time a TV show has been this widely available on the Internet. Viacom has just launched a new service that lets you watch every episode of The Daily Show online for free. It’s supported simply by adding that shows every once in a while between videos as well as a short seven second ad as an introduction.

Viacom has been preparing since June over 13,000 clips to be featured on the Web site. Honestly, I would expect Viacom to be the last company to make a move like this, considering it is in the middle of a lawsuit against Google for illegally hosting its videos on YouTube. The launch of this new service will of course be closely watched by other companies interested in seeing if this will work and using it to their own advantage.

This could well be the first step in having all TV shows available on the Internet for free. now if they would learn to share their content on other sites. Oh well, one step at a time I guess.
