Gom Video Player

It has been a while since a new video player has caught my attention. For the most part, I use Windows Media Player because it is there and it works. Sometimes though, I wish I had another alternative to choose from. A new one that just caught my eye is the Gom Player. The folks behind the product promise that you will “experience something you’ve never seen in the past with other media players”.

So does it live up to the hype? Well I messed around with it and I couldn’t find a place where it was doing anything wrong. As far as getting video files to play it does that well. It comes with several video codecs built in by default and promises you will never need any more than it comes with. Some of these include AVI, DAT, MPEG, Divx, and more. So I think it should have the average folks covered in that department.

The most interesting note about this program is that they say they have some sort of patent that allows them to play broken media files. You remember that time you were downloading the big chunk of video, your connection was broken and you thought you had lost it? With the Gom Player, you should at least be able to play that segment with no problems at all.

If you are looking for a different video player for your media files, then I would suggest you at least give the Gom Player a shot.
