Beowulf The Game - Ray Winstone Behind The Scenes

Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, today announced the release of a new behind-the-scenes video featuring leading Hollywood actor Ray Winstone and his involvement in Beowulf, an action combat video game based on Paramount Pictures’ and Shangri-La Entertainment’s Beowulf, the upcoming feature film from Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis. The Beowulf video game is being developed by the award-winning team that created the original Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter in Ubisoft’s Tiwak studio and is scheduled for worldwide release in conjunction with the movie’s opening in November 2007.

This new behind-the-scenes video offers a window into the process of bringing Ray Winstone from the upcoming Beowulf feature film into the interactive world of the Beowulf video game. This exclusive video interview details the first time Ray Winstone has worked between the mediums of movie and game. We go in to the studio to watch as voice over sessions capture the spirit and drama of Ray Winstone’s transformation from leading Hollywood actor in to the legendary hero Beowulf.

“This is the first time I’ve worked on a video game, and I must say it was one of the hardest working days of my career,” confessed Ray Winstone after the intense recording sessions for the Ubisoft production. “But it was vital to capturing the power of the film and translating that into a great gaming experience. Beowulf is a brutal character, a Dark Age-gangster with both hero and monster in him… as a player, I can identify with the monster slayer.”

The Beowulf video game is an interactive experience that captures the spirit and artistic beauty of the film while offering an even deeper look into the epic tale of Beowulf. The video game features exclusive content that is unexplored by the film and even the classic tale, extending the adventure through 30 years of the Beowulf story. The roles of King Hrothgar, played by Anthony Hopkins, Beowulf, played by Ray Winstone, Wiglaf, played by Brendan Gleeson, and Wulfgar, played by Sebastien Roche, have been greatly expanded and adapted to the interactive realm to deliver amazing performances that can only be found in the game.

About the Movie Groundbreaking director Robert Zemeckis offers a vision of the Beowulf saga that has never been told before. In a time of heroes, the mighty warrior Beowulf slays the demon Grendel and incurs the wrath of its monstrous, yet seductive, mother in a conflict that transforms a king into a legend. Beowulf stars Ray Winstone in the title role and Anthony Hopkins as the corrupt King Hrothgar, as well as John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman and Angelina Jolie as Grendel’s mother. Paramount Pictures, in association with Shangri-La Entertainment, Presents an ImageMovers Production of a Robert Zemeckis film, Beowulf. Neil Gaiman & Roger Avary adapted the legend for the screen. The film is produced by Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke. The executive producers are Martin Shafer, Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman.

Ubisoft Unveils Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, has announced that Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, the next installment in the popular squad-based action franchise, is currently in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and Windows PC. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is being developed by the award-winning teams that created the original Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter in Ubisoft’s Paris and Red Storm Studios. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is scheduled for worldwide release in Spring 2007.

“Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter set the standard for what we know as the next-generation gaming experience,” said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. “With Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Ubisoft is taking all the successful elements in the original to an unparalleled level of quality - the sophisticated technology, weaponry, graphics, story and online gameplay will heighten the intensity and bring gamers an even more amazing experience.”

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter received critical acclaim and quickly became one of the best-selling games on Xbox 360 and one of the most played games on the Xbox Live online gaming service. Recently, the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awarded Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter with “Best Game of the Year” and “Technical Achievement” honors.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 builds off of the events in the first game and places gamers in control of the U.S. military’s elite fighting unit, the Ghosts. In the year 2014, the rising conflict between Mexican loyalists and insurgent rebel forces has thrown Mexico into full-scale civil war. Under the command of Captain Scott Mitchell, the Ghosts are called upon to face an imminent threat to the United States. The fate of two countries now lies in the hands of the Ghosts as they fend off an attack on U.S. soil. Equipped with the most cutting-edge weaponry and technology, the Ghosts must battle on both sides of the border to neutralize the escalating rebel threat.

Key Features:

  • Groundbreaking Visual Experience: The war zone in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 comes to life as you navigate through trash-strewn streets and pick off enemies from behind bomb-scarred structures. The cutting-edge physics and particle systems will show you some of the most intense and realistic explosions, smoke, and environment destruction ever seen in a video game. Dynamic lighting and shadows will morph as real-time day/night cycles and a constantly changing weather system require you to adjust to the changing conditions on the fly.

  • All-New Battlegrounds: For the first time ever, the Ghosts will defend U.S. soil from a cross-border attack, taking the fight to all-new locations. The Ghosts will battle enemies in mountain terrains, barren deserts and even on their home turf in El Paso, Texas. Each environment presents its own benefits and challenges and will call for fresh tactical approaches.
  • Vastly Improved Artificial Intelligence (AI): Watch your back as rebels send their own team members to flank your position or gain vantage points by utilizing vertical gameplay to pick you off from the rooftops above. Improved squad-mate AI will now feed you more of the information you need with descriptive commands like “enemy spotted behind red truck ahead.”
  • Improved Cross-Com: The revolutionary new Cross-Com 2.0 will give the player more information than ever before. You will be able to see what your friendly forces see in the top left display and the click of a button will expand that to full-screen view for a clearer and more precise picture. This will give you a more comprehensive view of the entire battlefield. The new Full Command View will allow unprecedented precision in developing and issuing tactical plans on the battlefield.
  • Expanded Support: Command lethal air strikes with jet fighters, gain mobile cover for otherwise impassable situations and replenish armaments on the battlefield using an unmanned artillery MULE. Players can now heal their team on the battlefield, including squad leader Scott Mitchell, with an all-new Medic class of soldier.

Clive Barker’s Jericho Unleashes New Video Trailer And Screenshots

Come get a taste of Clive’s disturbing supernatural shooter this Halloween with a new trailer and screenshots here.

Delivering a slice of the supernatural this Halloween, Codemasters today unleashed a new video trailer and imagery from Clive Barker’s Jericho, the phantasmagorical FPS hand crafted by the acclaimed horror writer and filmmaker.

Created from an original concept and story, Clive Barker’s Jericho promises an overload of sensory horror shock as players journey through hellish locations and slices of time. A squad-based horror FPS, the Jericho of the title refers to the Jericho Team, a seven-man strike force that protects government interests from paranormal threats. Trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts, each Jericho Team member is an expert in different para-psychological disciplines, including clairvoyance, alchemy, blood magic, and exorcism.

Clive Barker’s Jericho leads the Jericho Team toward a source of ancient evil so supremely powerful that it has broken through time into our world and is threatening to engulf the Earth. At ground zero lies the Middle Eastern city of Al-Khali, the site of a huge, secret archaeological dig and paranormal research centre, now the heart of a dimensional rift.

Players must navigate Al Khali’s labyrinthine of streets, alleys and structures, moving block by block in search of the rift. As the squad approaches the target, the city now crawling with hellish denizens emerging from the source, the team is forced to rely less and less on traditional weapons and instead on harnessing their combined psychic abilities to defeat the supernatural nemesis no matter how horrific their looks or attacks may be.

Licensed by Alchemic Productions, Clive Barker’s Jericho is currently in development at Mercury Steam. The game will utilise the Madrid-based studio’s new proprietary next-generation graphics engine to bring the monsters and demons from the depths of Barker’s imagination to life. The engine marries photo-realistic art with hyper-realistic colour and lighting effects to achieve a uniquely dark and almost surreal visual atmosphere, dropping players into the heart of Clive’s chilling interactive nightmare.

Clive Barker’s Jericho will launch late in 2007 for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC.

Medieval II: Total War - Developer Diary On Diplomacy

Hey, my name’s Dan Toose, one of the designers focused on the campaign aspect of Medieval II: Total War, including among many things, overseeing our redesign of the diplomacy system. Thanks to the tireless efforts of programmer Scott Lowther to help make the designs a reality, we’re able to share a bit about the thinking behind how we’ve revamped the Total War way of dealing with the other powers in the world.

In Rome: Total War the diplomacy system handled each diplomatic proposal in such a way as to ‘wrap up’ a collection of offers and/or demands as a whole proposal. When the player sent the AI a proposal, they would get a response which would ideally give them an indication as to what happened and why. Despite the admirable work done to create the ‘packaged proposal’ system, we had come to the conclusion that there was still too much mystery in Total War diplomacy.
