MMORPG IRC Chat Top 5 List

Gnomie Jumpman from our chatroom writes:

Hi Chris,

Just saw your MMORPG top 5 list on your Web site a few minutes ago and I’d like to input my two cents for players that get a little more involved in the game. I’m just going to go by Runescape as this is the MMORPG that I play.

5. Don’t log into the chat just to use the bots. The IRC channel stands for Internet Relay CHAT; don’t use it just to check your stats or the new “best” player. If you want to do all of that, query the bot and use it all you like.

4. Don’t flame/troll other chatters. Some channels on IRC consist of 20-200 chatters and they sure don’t appreciate you spamming up the channel by arguing. If you have something rude to say to someone, again, query them and talk to them privately. Keep your arguments out of the chat. Speaking of spam…

3. Don’t spam! Spamming is one of the worst things you can do online. For one, it’s completely useless and chances are you will get kick/kick-banned for flooding if you do it often in the channel. It also just degrades your respect of other chat members and may leave a negative influence on them.

2. Don’t advertise. Guaranteed, anybody on the chat dedicated to a certain MMORPG is not there looking for a new site to go on. They just want to chat about the game or talk in general.

And finally…

1. Be mature! There is nothing worse (yes, worse than spamming) than acting like, “ZOMG IZ A GIRL PLAEING RUENSCAP?!?!111one”. It is not unusual for a girl to be online and don’t be immature about it. Also, don’t be sexually immature either. Don’t think of the fact that a girl is in chat to try to act cool by harassing a girl. You’re not cool, and everyone would probably think you’re an idiot after an episode like that.

Well, there’s my two cents, Chris. Keep up the good work!
