Five Reasons For Rhythm (And Five Rhythms For Reason)

Here are my top five reasons why gamers that are just so obsessed with first person shooters (like Halo 3) should buy a rhythm game. Also, as a bonus, I’m sharing my top five rhythm games.
- First person shooters are great games, but they’re “first person.” That means that after you beat that dreaded campaign mode on legendary, there’s nothing more. The game is over. You have experienced it all, and it ends. Sure you can still play multiplayer, but it won’t be any more fun because you can’t unlock any more achievements.
- Get some friends. Virtual buddies don’t count for many reasons, but I’ll go into those another time. Being with people isn’t so bad. So throw away your Spartan helmet and pick up a phone.
- Your iPod won’t be cramped with the Halo 3 “UMMMMMMMMMM, OHHHH UMMMM UMMMMM, UMMMMM UMMM UMMMM UMMMMMM, OH OOOOO UMMMM UMMM UMMM UMMM.” Make room for some real music.
- Exercise. Your thumbs are in great shape — now what about the rest of you? With rhythm games, you are moving around and having a great time.
- If you would rather play Halo all night than go with your girlfriend to Victoria’s Secret so she can try on “new things,” you so desperately need a rhythm game (and some help).
And my top 5 rhythm games:
- Rock Band. Great game all around. Four of your best friends get together and play a great, exciting, and fun party game. The price might be hefty, but it’s worth it when you start living out your rockstar fantasies with your friends.
- Guitar Hero 2. Why not 3? One reason: BETTER SONGS.
- Dance Dance Revolution. Gets you moving and grooving. Also, some exercise.
- Karaoke Revolution. A fun and interactive singing game you can play with all your friends.
- And last but not least, Guitar Hero 3. Yes a lot of you are now ranting, but this is true. There are only a handful of good songs and they’re not even master recordings. Nothing has really changed except the setlist has gotten worse. Good thing about this game: the guitar works with Rock Band.
