Guitar Hero publisher RedOctane has joined forces with Kerrang! magazine in a bid to find the nation’s favourite guitar hero ever.
The game has been making wannabe rock stars’ dreams come true since its release - but which guitarists do its players and Kerrang! readers admire the most? Whose poses are they pulling when rocking out with the game’s Guitar Hero Gibson SG controller? Which axe-grinding gods do they become?
A shortlist of the greatest-ever guitarists has been determined by Kerrang!’s editorial team for the magazine’s inaugural ‘Sultans of String’ in association with Guitar Hero.
- Tony Iommi, Black Sabbath
- Angus Young, AC/DC
- Dimebag Darrell, Pantera/Damageplan
- James Hetfield, Metallica
- Slash, Guns ‘N’Roses/Velvet Revolver
- Kerry King, Slayer
- Matt Bellamy, Muse
- Matt Heafy, Trivium
- Tom Morello, Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave
- Jimmy Page, Led Zepplin
This week’s issue sees each of these guitarists profiled, and contains details on how readers can vote for their favourite. Everyone who votes stands a chance of winning a Gibson SG Faded guitar or one of 25 copies of Guitar Hero.
“This will be the ultimate rock-off,” says Dave Noble, business development, RedOctane. “Ten of the best guitarists in the world, in a vote organised in association with the best guitar game in the world. It’s the perfect combination - and a question which will certainly get the nation thinking.”
The Guitar Hero ‘Sultans of String’ appears in today’s edition of Kerrang!
The results will be announced shortly.
