Professor Lauds Video Games For Learning

Video games for learning may sound nuts to some of us, but apparently there are still those of us out there that firmly believe in this enough to make some noise about it…

A visiting American educationalist says video and computer games are a valuable education tool and parents and teachers should be making more use of them.

Marc Prensky is speaking in Rotorua today at a Ministry of Education conference on using new technology in education.

Mr Prensky says computer games can help prepare children for their future but also teach them old fashioned lessons about cooperation and ethics.

He says talking about the games can help teachers engage better with their students because it is a subject they relate to.

And he says children love to tell parents about the games so the parents should put aside their prejudices and be open to listening. [Get the links]
