Nintendogs Sells 250,000

After having their net profits drop off nearly 80% the folks at Nintendo have to be as giddy as a bunch of schoolgirls: their popular Nintendogs game has sold over 250,000 copies in its first week here in the United States.

“Nearly 15 percent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales & marketing. “Retailers are reporting DS sales up between one and a half and three times previous levels, and last week DS comfortably outsold our portable competitors.”

To help bolster the sales of Nintendogs, Nintendo dropped the price of the DS to $129.99 and released three different editions of the game (each featuring several types of dogs). In the game players raise and train a puppy using a microphone, and can physically interact with the dog by using the touch screen. The dogs can also interact with other dogs thanks to the built-in wireless access of the unit.

Yes, Nintendogs is here.
