Epic Games VP Mark Rein revealed to Computer and Video Games that the fourth iterations of the Unreal Engine is currently in the works. According to the article, Rein added that the company has been working on the project for approximately two years now. The interesting twist about this story is the fact that gamers have yet to even play a single game that uses the third version of the Unreal Engine. The Unreal 3 engine has been recently licensed to several major developers who are currently hard at work on future PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 releases.
Here’s a clip from the Computer and Video Games article:
“Unreal Engine 4 will be totally groundbreaking and the way games will be done in the future,” Rein continued. I don’t expect it to be staffed up as a full team for several years. But when people come to work at Epic, they can come here with the knowledge that we’re always keeping one eye on the future and they’re going to be helping to shape the future of the videogame business” continued Rein.
