San Andreas Banned Down Under

In the wake of the Hot Coffee scandal, the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has banned Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, putting the game amongst the ranks of Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, BMX XXX, and Manhunt; however, a heavily edited version of its precursor, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, was allowed to be sold down under.

Although it had been on sale in the country for months, with the recent revelation of the sex mini game within GTA:SA, OFLC revoked their MA15+ rating and banned sales of the game.

“Businesses that sell or hire computer games should remove existing stocks of this game from their shelves immediately,” said Des Clark, director of the OFLC. “Parents are strongly advised to exercise caution in allowing children continued access to the game, particularly if they might have access to the ‘Hot Coffee’ modification.”
