Child Suffocates, Parents Blame MMORPG … WTF?!

  • No Related Post

A couple from Incheon, South Korea, was arrested last week when their 4 year old daughter died after being left alone for a few hours. The couple reportedly went to an Internet cafe and had played Blizzard’s World of Warcraft for a few hours then returned home to find their child had died from suffocation.

A policeman speaking to the Chosun Libo newspaper said that due to the circumstances, the couple was charged with criminal neglect. “We were thinking of playing for just an hour or two and returning home like usual,” the couple told police, “but the game took longer that day.”

When your hopeless addiction reaches this point, I think it’s time to either invest in psychological counseling, or buy your own computer.

Yeah, I fully agree that the couple should be charged with criminal neglect, and yeah it’s a horrible tragedy that a 4 year old child died because its parents were too stupid to walk away from an MMORPG. But, as of this writing, there are an estimated 6.5 billion (with a ‘b’) people in the world. Please don’t use this one brain-damaged couple as a reason why games are an evil that must be regulated by the government (I’m looking at you, Chucky Schoomez).

Heck, with that many people in the world we need a government sanctioned vasectomy program more than video game regulations.

The child was four months old, not four years old. They left a baby at home in a bedroom alone to go play WoW.
