Famitsu, a Japanese gaming website, has taken a poll of Japanese gamers asking what console they’re looking forward to, and why.

If you’re an American gamer, the results may surprise you.

18.0% said they were interested in Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
39.8% said they were interested in Sony’s Playstation 3.
42.2% said they were interested in Nintendo’s Revolution.

Japanese gamers said they were looking forward to the Xbox 360 because of the third-party developer support. The Japanese gamers also looked forward to the Playstation 3 because of the technology driving the system: the Cell processor, and blu-ray DVD support. Finally, Japanese gamers said they were interested in the Nintendo Revolution because of its compact and innovative design.

Most respondents were happy with all three system’s backwards compatibility.

A very interesting poll, for sure, and appears to coincide with my thoughts that Nintendo understands, and targets, the Japanese gaming market.
