Matrix Games and 2by3 Games are set to release the long awaited turn-based strategy game Gary Grigsby’s World at War for the PC, and gamers are undoubtedly going to be pleased with the results. The new title will give players the opportunity to choose one of five military forces (Germany, Japan, the Soviet Union, the Western Allies, and China) and virtually take part in the legendary battles that changed the course of history.
Gary Grigsby’s World at War features four scenarios that take place during the Second World War starting from the Spring of 1940 until the Fall of 1946. Your goal is to strategically position your military forces across the world in order to capsize the treat of global domination put forth by The Axis (German and Japanese forces). Gamers will have the opportunity to strike opposing forces either by air, land or sea. World at War features 15 different combat units that each feature up to 14 different attributes that can be enhanced through research and development.
The game comes with five difficulty settings (Easy, Normal, Challenging, Hard and Impossible), and also includes a slew of customizable options that will help make your gaming experience as smooths as possible. The full release will include two tutorials that are focused on movement and production.
System wise, you won’t need an extra souped-up PC to play the game. The recommended system requirements is a 900MHz Pentium (or equivalent) with 512MB of RAM and a 32MB video card. So it’s quite safe to assume that any PC purchased within the last four to five years, and you’ve upgrade the RAM, will be World at War friendly.
World at War includes Play-By-eMail (PBeM) support which enables up to five players to send moves to each other via email. With this feature, gamers can take their time and send their move whenever they’re ready, the only setback is the fact that players must wait for each others moves in order for the game to progress.
In a genre filed with mediocre turn-based strategy games, Gary Grigsby’s World at War is a return to form for the genre.
