Electronic Arts announced today that the Super NES classic Super Punch-Out will be included in the GameCube version of its upcoming boxing title Fight Night Round 2. Gamers will also have the opportunity to unlock Punch-Out character Little-Mac in order to fight in the regular version of the game. Fight Night Round 2 will be released on March 1.
“The Punch-Out!! series defined boxing video games,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “We have a new contender in the ring that’s changing the face of boxing games. What better way to introduce our Nintendo gamers to EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 2 than allowing gamers to experience two boxing franchises that have had the most impact in this sports genre from the beginning of boxing games to now.”
I’ll definitely be picking-up a copy of this game at some point. Super Punch-Out alone is worth the price of Fight Night Round 2. This is the second time EA and Nintendo have partnered in such a fashion, as it was announced earlier this year that Mario, Luigi and Peach would be included as a playable team in the GameCube version of NBA Street V3.
