Following yesterday’s post about the potential Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) update, The Register posted a follow-up story that confirms the updates where genuine. The article quotes an unnamed Sony spokesperson who claims that the update features a text-to-speech utility, a calculator, web browser, email application and a word processor and spreadsheet tool.

But the spokesperson warned that installing the update will result in the PSP malfunctioning. The person also noted that anyone who’s has applied the download to the unit can send their PSP to Sony for a repair, for a nominal cost of course.

GameSpot has also published a story pertaining to the update. According to a Sony rep, the download was meant as a file for developers and included dummy data not meant for consumer units.
