The folks at RPG Vault have published an article that features an interview with The Bard’s Tale Executive Producer Brian Fargo and Creative Director Matt Findley on inXile’s recently released humor-oriented hack and slash RPG for the PS2 and Xbox.
Here’s a preview of what you can expect from the article, which is found at this link.
Brian Fargo: The Bard’s Tale is a fresh approach in the way of looking at role-playing games and in some of mechanics that drive the game itself. The premise was to make the Bard react like a real human being would if put into the situations that the heroes of these games find themselves in. We gave him a real personality and motives, and made his demeanor such that he would behave as if he himself had played too many games.
I had always wanted to re-visit the Bard’s Tale, but due to rights issues, I was unable to. The biggest influences for the Bard came from some great novel characters and from playing other RPGs. Mostly, the influence from other RPGs was related to recognizing the cliches and making sure we did not do the same story that had been done 100 times.
