Even if you are not a gamer yourself, one can hardly argue the fact that gaming tournaments are truly good for business. Well, from what I am reading at PRWeb, the cooperative effort between web2zone and Plantronics could really help to push gaming tournaments into a mainstream spotlight if done properly.

The first tournament will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2004 between web2zone (New York, NY) and GameWyze (Plano, TX), and will feature Bungie’s highly popular HALO 2 for Xbox. Gamers must be present at their respective game center in order to participate. Teams consisting of 2 players will compete face-to-face in a single elimination (best 2 out of 3) tournament format. The top two teams from each local center will then compete in an online Grand Championship via Xbox Live for over $4,000 in cash and prizes.

The second tournament will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2005 between web2zone (New York, NY) and CGCentre (LA/Irvine, CA), and will feature Valve Software’s Half-Life: Counter-Strike for PC. Top teams consisting of 5 players will compete online at their respective game center in this double elimination tournament format. Over $5,000 in cash and prizes will go to the top teams.

“Having hosted over 100 video game tournaments and events over the past two years, web2zone is primed to successfully execute this multi-city competitive video game event initiative,” says Ed Tomasi, web2zone’s Director of Marketing. “We are very excited to work with Plantronics to deliver these tournaments to competitive gamers. Each tournament participant will have the chance to compete with Plantronics headsets, including the GameCom Halo 2 Edition headset for the Xbox and GameCom Pro1, the best PC headset available.”

“Plantronics is thrilled to partner with web2zone to bring hardcore gamers the opportunity to compete with professional-grade headsets in a competitive gaming environment,” says Julia McDermott, Public Relations Manager for Plantronics. “Our headsets deliver supreme sound quality and will enable gamers to experience ultimate realism so they can perform at their best.”
