Coming Soon! reports that Paramount has acquired the film rights to Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Ubi’s popular stealth action series, and that they have hired Peter Berg along with Splinter Cell game writer JT Petty.
Variety says Berg is writing the script along with
Splinter Cell game writer J.T. Petty and John J. McLaughlin (Man of
the House). Paramount said the movie is aimed at combining the game’s
blend of stealth action with a “dynamic, original”
character.
What’s with the “dynamic, original character”? Why not just use Sam
Fisher? He seems like a pretty “dynamic” and “original” character to
me. Another Doom-Movie rehash? Hopefully not.
When intelligence deemed critical to national security cannot be obtained by traditional means, Third Echelon is granted clearance to conduct physical operations. Its existence denied by the U.S. government, Third Echelon deploys units known as Splinter Cells: elite intelligence-gathering forces consisting of a lone field operative supported by a remote team. Like a sliver of glass, a Splinter Cell is small, sharp, and nearly invisible.

An excellent suggestion for the Splinter Cell movie is to consider the technical advisor for the Splinter Cell games, Woodie Mister, in the movie. The guy looks intense and he is the real thing. Look at the website http://www.woodiemister.com to see what I mean. The fans just want the best potrayal of the character of Sam Fisher.
