Softimage Half-Life 2 Mod Tool Released

Let the modding begin, as the free Softimage XSI Mod Tool for Half-Life 2, which allows modders to create new characters, models and props among other things for the recently released Valve title, is now available for download. According to the press release, the “XSI Mod Tool was specifically developed for the mod community, giving them easy access to professional-level 3D character animation software and enabling them to alter the content and extend the life of their favorite games”.

Whether you are a 3-D professional, an experienced modder or just a novice, the XSI Mod Tool guides you through all the features and functionality in SOFTIMAGE|XSI. Unlike other free game modification utilities, the XSI Mod Tool gives you full access to all the professional features available in SOFTIMAGE|XSI. Everything you need to create and rig your characters, props and environment elements is here. Design, build and texture your artwork. You can then mix and blend animations, render interactively, or use real-time shaders. Once you’re done, simply export the models to your game.

The 202MB XSI Mod tool is available for download at softimage.com. It should be interesting to see what type of content will be developed during the next few months. Like its predecessor, I predict Half-Life 2 will have a long shelve life thanks to the excellent mod tools gamers have at their disposal.
